Off Season Shopping
As we move through fall and approach winter we are looking ahead to Summer 2020. Part of what we do during this time of year is purchase items for the upcoming summer. Some of these are big purchases, others are smaller items. Some are replacements or upgrades to current camp activities, others may be part of a new activity we will be adding for the summer. The above photo includes replacements, upgrades, new additions as well as a few random camp items. More additions [...]
We Love Session 6
We love all of our camp sessions at Walton's Grizzly Lodge, but Session 6 does hold an extra special place in our hearts. 2019 marked the 20th summer of Session 6 at Walton's. Session 6 is our final week of the summer at camp. Many first year Walton's campers attend this week long session each summer. During most of our sessions about one in three of our campers are new to Walton's. During Session 6 the majority of our campers are first year Walton's [...]
WAIC Conference
Last week Paul, Julie and Andy traveled to southern California to take part in the 68th annual WAIC (Western Association of Independent Camps) Conference. WAIC consist of independent day camps and residential summer camps from California and throughout the western United States. Camps that are members of WAIC are also accredited through the ACA (American Camp Association.) Old camp friends were reunited, new camp friends were made and camp ideas were shared. As with each WAIC Conference, some of these ideas will make their [...]
Happy 50th Birthday Patrick Garcia!
Patrick Garcia turns 50 years old today. We would like to wish him a very happy birthday. Patrick has worked at Walton's for over 30 years, most of those as a year round employee. He was also a camper with us for a few summers back in the early 1980's. As our head groundskeeper Patrick has many roles at camp. His pride and joy is making sure our lawns are prepared for the summer, are in pristine condition during the summer and then are [...]
Fall At Camp
Crisp mornings, clear days and cool evenings. Summer is now fall at Walton's Grizzly Lodge. The leaves on our Aspen trees have turned a beautiful yellow as we move towards winter. On site, Patrick Garcia is dilligently tending to our lawns in preparation of their dormant season and we are putting the finishing touches on our fall projects as we prepare to fully close down camp as we move into November. When our final group of campers depart at the end of August camp begins [...]
Paul and Riley Got Married!
On Saturday September 7th, Paul Dolfini and Riley Grim were married in a beautful ceremony at camp. The wedding weekend was full of fun camp fun as nearly 250 friends, family and many connected with Walton's joined together to celebrate Paul and Riley. 30 years ago Riley's parents Terry and Gia were married at camp in the Announcement Area. Paul and Riley exchanged their vows on the beach near the shore of the lake. It was a perfect September afternoon with temperatures in the [...]
Swinging Bench Dedicated In Memory Of Joe Stein
On Sunday our family gathered for stories, a final goodbye and to dedicate a new swinging bench in the memory of Joe Stein. After taking a ride around camp in our 1962 Scout we arrived at Fisherman's Point where Bob told the story and history of "The Scout." In 1965 Bob and Denise were married and moved to Truckee where they had been hired as school teachers. In need of a 4wheel drive vehicle Bob and Pop Walton went looking for a one in [...]
Camp Friends
We love when camp friends visit Walton's during the summer. Last week former staff member Matt Walvatne visited and was kind enough to play a Closing Song for us. Matt was a counsleor at Walton's from 2002-2004. He is married and has two children ages nine and six who are hoping to attend Walton's one day. They already know our closing pledge and taps because dad sings it to them at bedtime. Matt is from Minnesota and was doing an internet search for summer [...]
