Getting Ready for Camp
With camp just around the corner, we have put together this WGL Pre-Camp Checklist to help you get ready for the best summer ever!
Involve Your Camper in the Preparation
A key to having a great camp experience is engaging kids in the preparation process. By including your camper in pre-camp shopping and packing, you can help your child build excitement for the upcoming experience. Reading the Camper Handbook together is a great way to help your child know what to expect and to give them a chance to discuss any concerns they may have.
Ensure all Camper Forms are Completed and Returned
Log into your online account and get started on your camper’s medical forms. It might not be the most exciting part of preparing for camp, but it’s an essential step to help us create a healthy and safe community. All medical forms are due by June 1st, including the Physician’s Exam form which requires your doctor’s signature within one year of camp attendance.
Double Check the Packing List and Camper Handbook
Review the Packing List and Camper Handbook in your account. We suggest printing a copy of the packing list for your camper to look over and use while packing. The handbook contains valuable information, from arrival and departure times, to how to send mail to your camper, along with other camp policies and procedures.
Label All Camper Items
We want campers to come home with all the items they brought to camp and we know you do too! Please label all clothing, water bottles, and other items they may use throughout the day. Make sure to write both first and last names on each item using a laundry marking pen or on clothing labels!
Get Excited WITH Your Camper
Keeping your camper focused on the positive by talking about what they are looking forward to can help them manage any concerns they may have. Looking through the activities list on our website or watching a few of our camp videos together is a fun way to help them identify the things they are excited to do. If you are worried about potential homesickness, read our Dos and Don’ts on our Parent Resources page.
When in Doubt, Ask!
Our website and Camper Handbook are excellent resources for any question you may have leading up to summer, and please don’t hesitate to reach out to our director team by emailing or calling our office with questions.
