After a day at camp, the group will hit the trail Monday morning for six days of backpacking and exploring the Lakes Basin area. Upon returning to Walton's they will have camp to themselves for a day. This summer marks the eigth year of OAP. We are excited for these campers to participate in this unique Walton's experience and "Get Out There!" For more information [...]

Sattley Cash Store
Many campers and their families will pass through the small town of Sattley on their way to and from Walton's Grizzly Lodge this summer. As you make the turn onto Westside Road (County Road A23) you will notice the Sattley Cash Store. We are pleased to report that the store will be open all summer. Snacks, cold drinks, ice cream and antiques can be found inside. The store is also home to Country Class Collectibles, selling stained glass, jewelry, pyrography and metal art. Super [...]
Buddy Day!
"Who's your Buddy?!" Seven weeks from today we will find out. On the second Wednesday of session three campers and staff members will particpate in one of the oldest and longest running Special Events at Walton's Grizzly Lodge, Buddy Day. Campers and staff members enjoy dressing like their Buddy and spending extra time together on this special camp day focused on fun and friendship with a touch of silliness. Buddy Day at camp dates back to the 1950's. Joe Stein created the event and [...]
Big Mable and the Portholes
Big Mable and the Portholes took the stage last Thursday night to a standing room only crowd at The Pour House in Grass Valley. As is her habit, Big Mable didn't make the show but Andy, Paul and Adam along with WGL staff alumnus Mike Whittle were there to lead the band through two sets of sea shanties and sing alongs, including a few Walton's campfire favorites. Former Walton's staff member Kyle Porter who recorded, edited and mixed five Walton's campfire CDs between the [...]

Tour de Grizz Boat Race
One of our favorite events at camp is the Tour de Grizz Boat Race. The event is held on the second Friday morning of our two week sessions. Many campers dedicate activity time throughout the session in our Woodshop designing and creating their boats to race down Grizzly Creek in our Gold Panning area. As race day approaches campers put the finishing touches on their boats and gear up for this prestigious and thrilling race down the river. The event itself consist of a [...]
Hike To The Bald Spot
The Sierra Buttes, Mt. Elwell, Eureka Peak, Smith Peak and Beckwourth Peak are just a few of the excellent day hikes within a 45 minutes drive from Walton's Grizzly Lodge that our campers have hiked over the years. We are also fortunate to have a three and a half mile round trip "in camp hike" that campers can hike to in an afternoon while at camp. Named the "Bald Spot," the hike takes campers across our lake, up the hill and through the woods [...]
Suggestion Box
During the summer of 2017, Walton's camper Owen Kay let us know that he had a suggestion for camp. His suggestion; "we should have a Suggestion Box." We thought it was a great idea. The next day, Owen presented the Suggestion Box he made at Woodworking that day to camp. The suggestions began pouring in. Activity ideas, meal ideas and things that we had not thought of (thinking outside of the box and then put into the box you could say). While we were [...]
