Project:Camp and The Season of Giving

Last month, our Assistant Director, Ella Walton, spent a week working as an On-Call Director for Project:Camp in Asheville, NC to support victims of Hurricane Helene. As a disaster relief organization, Project:Camp organizes, staffs, and runs pop-up camps in areas recovering from disaster, providing parents with reliable childcare and kids with the fun of summer camp through a trauma-informed lens.

Project:Camp was founded by a former camp director and strategy expert who recognized that children were often overlooked by aid programs in the aftermath of natural disasters. By providing kids with a supportive environment to simply be a kid while their parents work through the endless logistics, these families are better able to recover.

Ella spent the week getting creative with camp activities, supporting Project:Camp’s volunteer staff, and spending valuable time with campers. You can learn more about the Asheville camp and the community support efforts throughout the region in this E&E News article.

Walton’s Grizzly Lodge also partners with  Scope, an organization that provides summer camp scholarships to children across the U.S. We invite our camp community to join us this holiday season in donating to Project:Camp to support their ongoing work to bring camp to communities affected by disasters and to Scope to make the camp experience accessible to more children.
