We are loving the Summer of 2019 and are excited for the Summer of 2020!
On July 1st we will begin accepting applications for the Summer of 2020.
Summer is in full swing at Walton’s as we begin the second week of Session #2.
The middle Sunday at camp during our two week sessions offers our campers and staff a change of pace and some new and different activities and events. After a little extra sleep in Sunday morning we enjoy a leisurely brunch in our Lodge. Bagels, fruit, quiche and donuts are enjoyed by all. Those who have entered our Rec Game Tournaments can begin playing their games of Ping Pong, Pocket Golf and Foosball.
After brunch campers take extra time and care to clean and organize their living space and the common areas they share during “Super Dorm Clean Up.” At the conclusion of this time of tidying a camper from each group is presented with the “Clean Camper Award” for their efforts and cleanliness. Many a mom and dad are pleased, and occasionally surprised, when their child shows them their certificate of cleaning excellence upon returning home.
Super Dorm Clean Up is followed by a morning activity where campers can choose to swim, take a boat out on our lake, play a game in our Club Area, enjoy extended time in our Recreation Area or take a trip into Portola to enjoy our local park. A picnic lunch on our front lawn and Rest Period take us into the afternoon when the camp energy begins to take off. Our older campers have a few prime camp activities to themselves while our B and C Division campers take part in one of our longest running camp Special Events, the Water Carnival. An afternoon of cheering, gathering, creating and competing ensue as campers participate in classic camp events such as The Grizzly 1600, Fill The Bucket, Leap Frog, the Corcl Relay and conclude with the Sand Sculpture competition.
After dinner campers enjoy an evening activity and a staff member delivers an inspirational vesper to camp. This is followed by each cabin group spending time together at their individual campfire where they share memories and accomplishments from the previous week, prepare for their second week together at camp and roast marshmallows. To top off the night we all join togther as a camp at our large campfire and sing a few of our favorite camp songs. In addition, our CILTs announce the dance theme for the upcoming camp dance that will be held on Thursday night.
Wow, the middle Sunday at camp starts off with a slower pace and picks up speed throughout the day as we send our camp energy, enthusiasm and events to another level as the second week of each session at Walton’s Grizzly Lodge begins.
