Life After Camp

It’s been a busy month for Walton’s Grizzly Lodge counselors as they return to their lives outside of camp. We miss our summer camp community on Ice Pond Road, so we caught up with some 2025 staff members to see what they have been up to.

Lily in Denmark

First-year counselor Lily is currently studying abroad at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark! In between classes, she has been exploring Copenhagen where she saw some awesome Redbull competitions, attended amazing concerts, and learned how to bike properly. Lily has made many international friends and is learning how to cook new foods. Recently, the Queen of Denmark sat in on one of her classes!

Lily has been busy travelling as well. She visited Norway for a few days where she did some hiking and quickly decided it was the prettiest country she’s ever been to! She also stopped in Sweden, to try delicious Swedish candy, and Poland, where she swam and enjoyed the last bits of summer.

Gavin Surfing in San Diego

Second-year counselor Gavin just started his third year of college at San Diego State University and is enjoying all the sunny city has to offer. In addition to his studies, he has been working as a tutor in a transitional kindergarten classroom where he loves watching how fast the kids grow and learn.

Outside of school and work, Gavin has been enjoying lots of live music with friends and recently saw Mt. Joy with a few fellow WGL counselors! He’s been surfing as much as possible, tearing it up on the pickleball court, and recently started rock climbing.

Miranda’s Adventure to Arizona

To say first-year counselor Miranda has kept busy since camp wrapped up is an understatement. She finished the summer off with a road trip across the West Coast, visiting eight National Parks on her way: Red Woods, Olympic, Mount Rainier, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Zion, and the Grand Canyon! After four months away from Wisconsin, she surprised her family with a visit home before heading back west.

Earlier this month, she started school at Grand Canyon University in Arizona, where she has quickly gotten involved in many local activities. She joined a 3-on-3 basketball team, started volunteering to play sports with local kids, and began training for a HYROX athletic competition. Staying true to herself, Miranda is wowing us with her sense of adventure!
